24 People Shot, 1 Dead In Ohio Mass Shooting

(Scypre.com) – The Akron Police Department is currently investigating a tragic overnight shooting that has left the community in shock. The incident resulted in 25 individuals suffering gunshot wounds, with a 27-year-old man losing his life.

Early Sunday morning, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding released a joint statement addressing the incident:

“This morning, our city is reeling after the devastation of senseless violence. With more than two dozen victims, the pain and trauma reverberate across all of Akron today as we search for answers. As with all acts of violence in our city, our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones.

We will bring those responsible to justice, and we need the help of our community to do that. For those who have information about this horrific shooting – we need you to speak up in order to prevent further violence and retaliation. This can be done anonymously.

Today, and in the days ahead, we will share more information about this horrific incident. Our city government and our Akron Police Department will continue to prioritize public safety as our number one concern as we aim to end gun violence in our community.”

Incident Details

The shooting occurred just after midnight near Kelly and 8th Avenues. Multiple 911 calls were made reporting numerous people being shot in the area, prompting a swift response from the authorities. Victims soon began arriving at nearby hospitals.

Police discovered dozens of bullet casings and one firearm at the scene, but no suspects were apprehended. Photographs from the scene show 38 evidence markers on the ground. Prior to the shooting, a street party was taking place in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing hundreds of people enjoying the party before the chaos ensued. One witness described the scene as reminiscent of a spring break movie, with people dancing on top of vehicles and everyone wearing white T-shirts.

Hospital Reports

The Cleveland Clinic admitted seven patients early Sunday morning, with one in critical condition. The hospital was under a hard lockdown until around 3:30 a.m. Summa Health received 15 patients, 13 of whom had non-life-threatening injuries, and one remains in critical condition.
