(Scypre.com) – In a recent session of the Illinois General Assembly, State Representative Bob Morgan (D-Deerfield) dismissed claims that middle school girls were compelled to change clothes in front of a transgender student, labeling the allegations as “a lie.”
The controversy began when Nicole Georgas, a Deerfield resident, alleged that her 13-year-old daughter was required to change in front of a transgender student in the girls’ locker room at Shepard Middle School. Georgas brought the issue to light during a school board meeting and subsequently filed a federal civil rights complaint.
During the assembly session, Morgan responded to the allegations, stating, “I’m really proud of my community who stood up for those who need to be defended and protected… Because it’s a lie!”
Georgas reacted strongly to Morgan’s remarks, posting on social media, “Really [Rep. Morgan?] Was your daughter in the locker room? Because mine was! How dare you accuse them of lying.”
Deerfield Public Schools District 109 addressed the situation, stating that their policies align with state laws and that no student is required to change in front of others. They emphasized that students have multiple options to change in private locations if they wish.
The incident has sparked a broader debate on student privacy and transgender rights within school settings. While some advocate for inclusive policies that respect gender identity, others express concerns about privacy and safety in shared spaces.
As discussions continue, the community remains divided on how best to balance the rights and concerns of all students involved.
