(Scypre.com) – A 14-year-old boy, Abdul Aziz Khan, who was abducted by his non-custodial mother in 2017 and whose case was featured on Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries,” has been found safe in Colorado after seven years.
On February 23, 2025, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a trespassing call at a vacant home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Upon arrival, they found two adults attempting to enter the property and two children waiting in a vehicle outside.
The adults, identified as 40-year-old Rabia Khalid and her husband, 42-year-old Elliot Blake Bourgeois, provided inconsistent information to the deputies. A fingerprint scan revealed Khalid had an active warrant for kidnapping her son, Abdul Aziz Khan, from Atlanta, Georgia, in 2017.
In November 2017, Khalid failed to appear for a custody hearing in Atlanta. She allegedly packed her belongings and fled with Abdul and Bourgeois. The U.S. Marshals Service had been searching for them across 11 states over the years.
Abdul’s disappearance was featured in a 2022 episode of Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries,” bringing national attention to the case. The episode highlighted the unique challenges of parental abductions and the emotional toll on left-behind parents.
Both Khalid and Bourgeois were arrested and face multiple charges, including second-degree kidnapping, forgery, identity theft, providing false information to authorities, and trespassing. Their bonds were set at $1 million each, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 27.
Abdul and another child found at the scene were placed into protective custody. The court will determine their future placement.
Abdul’s family expressed immense relief and gratitude: “We’re overwhelmed with joy that Aziz has finally been found. We want to thank everyone for their support over the last seven years.” They have requested privacy as they reunite and heal.
The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the events of the past seven years and ensure justice is served.
