(Scypre.com) – In a heartbreaking incident in Duluth, Minnesota, authorities discovered five individuals dead in what police have described as a possible quadruple murder-suicide spanning two homes. Among the deceased are two juveniles, marking a deeply tragic event for the community.
According to the Duluth Police Department, officers were first alerted when a city of Superior employee requested a welfare check after a coworker failed to report to work. Around 2 p.m., officers arrived at a residence on the 6000 block of Tacony Street, where they found two bodies: 47-year-old Erin Abramson and her 15-year-old son, Jacob Nephew. Both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds.

Further investigation led police to identify a suspect, 46-year-old Anthony Nephew, whose home was situated approximately a mile northeast of the first location. Authorities established surveillance on his property and, using drones, gained entry to the house. Inside, officers found two more victims: 45-year-old Kathryn Nephew and her 7-year-old son, Oliver Nephew, both of whom also appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. Anthony Nephew was found dead at the scene as well, having seemingly taken his own life with a firearm.
During a press conference, Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa shared insights into the relationships within the family. Anthony Nephew was married to Kathryn Nephew and was Oliver’s father. He had previously been in a relationship with Erin Abramson, and Jacob was their son. Preliminary evidence gathered by police suggests that Anthony Nephew may have been experiencing significant mental health issues, possibly contributing to the tragic events.
In addressing the community, Chief Ceynowa expressed sympathy for those impacted, stating, “I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and victims who were involved in this tragedy yesterday. We also want to send our condolences to both the Duluth and Superior communities as this is a senseless and tragic event.”
The Duluth Police Department confirmed that no ongoing threat exists to the public, reassuring residents as the investigation continues. For many, however, the incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support.
