AOC Calls On NYC Mayor To Resign Immediately

(Scypre.com) – New York Mayor Eric Adams is facing intense scrutiny after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for his resignation in the wake of federal raids targeting his aides and inner circle. Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent left-wing voice, expressed doubts about Adams’ ability to govern following the investigations, which have resulted in multiple resignations and raised serious questions about corruption within his administration.

“I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X (formerly Twitter). This public criticism marks the first time in over a year that she has taken aim at her hometown’s mayor. Ocasio-Cortez’s district spans parts of two New York City boroughs, making her a key political player in the ongoing turmoil.

In her tweet, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the “flood of resignations” and constant investigations that she believes will make it nearly impossible for Adams to maintain a functional government. Among the high-profile exits was NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, who resigned amidst rumors and ongoing investigations. Caban is not currently a target of the federal investigation but has pledged cooperation through his attorneys. His twin brother, James Caban, is also under scrutiny for allegedly using his NYPD connections to protect nightclubs from police interference.

Mayor Adams fired back at Ocasio-Cortez, accusing her of hypocrisy and making politically motivated attacks without any criminal charges being filed against him. “For anyone who self-righteously claims people charged with serious crimes should not be in jail to now say that the second Black mayor of New York should resign because of rumors and innuendo — without even a single charge being filed — is the height of hypocrisy,” Adams told Fox News Digital. He emphasized his commitment to continue leading the city through its challenges, stating, “The people of this city elected me to fight for them, and I will stay and fight no matter what.”

The investigation has already led to significant upheaval in the mayor’s administration. In addition to Caban’s departure, several other top officials have come under scrutiny. Among them are First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks III, and former NYPD official turned adviser Timothy Pearson, all of whom have had warrants served on them. Additionally, Winnie Greco, another Adams aide, was raided in connection with a separate fundraising investigation.

Adams, who had his own devices seized by federal agents last year and has been cooperating with investigators, maintains that he has done nothing wrong. However, the mounting pressure and calls for his resignation, led by Ocasio-Cortez, raise serious questions about the future of his leadership.

Adams recently appointed Tom Donlon, a retired FBI agent, as Interim Commissioner of the NYPD following Caban’s resignation. Donlon previously led the National Threat Center and oversaw the Terrorism Watch List, bringing significant law enforcement experience to a city facing political turmoil and scandal.
