(Scypre.com) – The presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is neck and neck, with Harris leading by a slim margin of 48% to Trump’s 47%, according to a recent CNN poll.
Harris has garnered support largely based on her personal appeal, while Trump relies on his strong base and a perceived advantage in handling the economy. Despite his less favorable personal ratings, Trump’s policies, particularly his economic stance, resonate with a significant portion of likely voters.
Harris enjoys substantial backing from younger voters, African Americans, and Latinos, and is particularly favored by independent women. However, Trump maintains a lead among White voters, particularly White men, and holds a decisive edge in key issues like the economy, immigration, and foreign policy.
About 41% of likely voters identify the economy as their most important issue, and Trump is the preferred candidate in this domain. Harris, on the other hand, is seen more favorably in areas like abortion rights, uniting the country, and protecting democracy.
A growing number of voters view Harris in a positive light since she became the Democratic nominee, with her favorability at 46%. Trump’s favorability remains at 42%. In terms of their running mates, Harris’ choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is viewed more favorably than Trump’s selection of Ohio Senator JD Vance.
When it comes to temperament and empathy, Harris is viewed more positively than Trump, with 58% of likely voters approving of her temperament compared to Trump’s 38%. Additionally, Harris has the support of voters who prioritize democracy and reproductive rights, while Trump’s strength lies in voters focused on economic issues, particularly inflation. A majority of Trump’s supporters believe his presidency was a success, which bolsters his position despite concerns about his extreme views.
Political violence and its potential rise following the election is a concern for many voters, with 77% agreeing that the tone of political debate encourages violence. More voters expect political violence to worsen if Trump wins compared to Harris. Emotions run high on both sides, with many voters expressing fear and anger at the prospect of the other candidate winning. However, a notable shift shows more voters feeling positive emotions about a potential Trump victory compared to 2016.
