(Scypre.com) – A homeowner in Texas recently shared her thoughts on a DoorDash delivery driver who became upset over the tip amount. Lacey Purciful, the homeowner, emphasized the importance of kindness and empathy, urging people to consider that others may be going through challenging situations. She clarified that the $5 tip she provided accounted for 22% of the total order cost.
Purciful explained that she and her husband have been recovering from a car accident, which is why they have been relying on food delivery services like DoorDash. On this particular occasion, she tipped the delivery driver $5 for her pizza order.
However, the driver seemed dissatisfied with the amount and voiced his frustration when handing her the pizza. The entire exchange was captured on Purciful’s home surveillance camera.
After receiving the pizza, the driver commented, “I just want to say it’s a nice house for a $5 tip.” In response, Purciful retorted with a sarcastic “You’re welcome.” The driver then uttered an offensive remark as he walked away, saying, “F*** you.”
Purciful admitted that she was initially taken aback and found the situation somewhat amusing. However, she chose to respond sarcastically to protect her four-year-old daughter who was present. Subsequently, she closed the door as the driver left.
Purciful mentioned that she has always been a generous tipper due to her background in the food industry. If the driver had not engaged in the heated exchange, he may have received an even larger tip.
Following the incident, Purciful’s husband contacted DoorDash to report the incident, providing them with the video evidence. As a result, the driver was removed from the platform. DoorDash refunded the $5 and also offered a $75 credit as an apology.
Since the incident, Purciful has not had any further communication with the delivery driver. DoorDash addressed the matter through a statement to local outlet WFAA, stating that the driver’s behavior was unacceptable. They emphasized that while it is acceptable to politely request a tip, abusing or harassing someone is never condoned.
DoorDash is committed to ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for all users, including dashers, customers, and merchants. They will enforce their rules consistently and fairly, expecting everyone to treat others with respect.
