(Scypre.com) – In a recent turn of events, the Texas police have apprehended a suspect believed to be responsible for the tragic death of 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina. The Edna Police Department made the announcement about the arrest of Rafael Govea Romero in Schulenburg. Officials referred to him as an “undocumented male.” Despite the apprehension, the grieving family and friends of Lizbeth still require support from the community.
Lizbeth’s mother, Jacqueline Medina, expressed that she does not know the suspect and is eagerly waiting for more information from the police. The shocking incident unfolded when Jacqueline came home to find Lizbeth dead in their apartment bathtub at the Cottonwood Apartments. The discovery was made after Jacqueline had been unable to reach Lizbeth earlier in the day.
Recalling the heart-wrenching moment, Jacqueline shared, “I decided to go look for her. And I kept calling her phone nonstop, and it would take me straight to voicemail… I called a bunch of people and nobody knew anything. It wasn’t until I walked into the restroom that I was on the phone with my friend asking him to come help me look for her – is when I [saw] her foot, and it was in the bathtub. And so I opened the curtains. There she was.”
Lizbeth’s last known communication was around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and after that, her phone went unanswered. Friends and family initially assumed her phone might have died, given that she had been sick the day before and had missed school. Jacqueline, returning from work to attend a Christmas parade where Lizbeth was supposed to participate, became alarmed when she couldn’t find her daughter at the event.
Expressing her disbelief and grief, Jacqueline questioned, “I don’t understand why. My God, why would they do this to her? She’s such a beautiful, smart, and amazing girl. There’s moments where I just can’t take it. And then there’s moments where I feel like I need to be strong for her.”
It is worth noting that Jacqueline and Lizbeth had recently moved from Nebraska to Texas for Jacqueline’s job in renewable energy. They were the only two people with keys to their apartment. Romero was arrested a day after the police shared security camera footage of a person of interest in the case.
Lizbeth, described by her mother as “an amazing, good girl,” was known for her maturity and caring nature. Jacqueline wants people to remember her daughter for the positive impact she had on others. In response to this tragedy, the Medina family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign titled “Justice for Lizbeth Medina” to support their efforts in finding Lizbeth’s suspected killer.
