(Scypre.com) – Pro Football Hall of Fame offensive lineman Larry Allen passed away suddenly on Sunday while on a family vacation in Mexico, as announced by the Dallas Cowboys. He was 52 years old.
Larry Allen, a revered figure in professional football, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. Drafted in the second round (46th overall) out of Sonoma State in the 1994 NFL Draft, Allen showcased his versatility by playing nearly every offensive-line position for the Dallas Cowboys, except for center. His career with Dallas saw him play right tackle in 1994, right guard from 1995 to 1997, left tackle in 1998, and left guard from 1999 to 2007.
During his illustrious career, Allen earned 11 Pro Bowl selections, six First-Team All-Pro honors, and was part of the Cowboys’ 1995 Super Bowl-winning team. His significant contributions to the team led to his induction into the Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2011. He was instrumental in creating running lanes for Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher.
The Dallas Cowboys expressed their condolences, highlighting Allen’s exceptional athleticism and strength. “Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL,” the Cowboys’ statement read. “His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players, defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor, and winner.”
Allen’s remarkable career spanned 14 seasons from 1994 to 2007, including 12 seasons with the Cowboys before concluding his football journey with the San Francisco 49ers. His excellence on the field earned him spots on both the 1990s and 2000s All-Decade teams.
Larry Allen’s legacy extends beyond the football field. He was deeply cherished by his family, including his wife Janelle, whom he referred to as his heart and soul, his daughters Jayla and Loriana, and his son Larry III. “The Jones family and the Cowboys extend their deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the Allen family and grieve along with the many other friends and Cowboys teammates that also loved Larry,” the Cowboys stated.
