Man Locks Himself in Amusement Park With Explosives

(Scypre.com) – Authorities revealed that a heavily armed individual, suspected of plotting an attack on Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado, took his own life before executing the plan. The 20-year-old man was discovered deceased by park officials on Saturday morning prior to the park’s opening to the public.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man had unlawfully entered the park during its closed hours, equipped with an AR-style rifle, a handgun, and explosives. The individual was also clad in tactical clothing and body armor. Sheriff Lou Vallario disclosed the discovery of a message in the women’s restroom, where the man was found, stating, “I am not a killer, I just want to get into the caves.” However, the sheriff could not confirm if the deceased individual wrote the message.

Investigators searched the man’s vehicle and uncovered explosive devices, although a subsequent search of the entire park yielded no additional explosives. Emphasizing the severity of the situation, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Walt Stowe remarked, “While this investigation is still ongoing and very active, it is important to realize that given the amount of weaponry, ammunition, and explosive devices found, the suspect could have implemented an attack of devastating proportions upon our community and first responders.”

The local man, discovered to be in possession of extra loaded magazines for each of his weapons, had clothing adorned with patches and emblems resembling those of law enforcement. The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are being investigated as a potential suicide, as indicated by Stowe. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, situated on a mountain near the Colorado River in western Colorado, is renowned for its cave tours, alpine coaster, and cliff-edge swing ride.
