Man Pays Over $100k for a Speeding Ticket

(Scypre.com) – If time equates to monetary value, then the value of his time must have been substantial.

A prosperous man from Finland has been issued a fine of $129,544 for driving 20 mph over the speed limit. Anders Wiklöf was caught driving at a speed of 82 kph (51 mph) in a zone where the limit was 50 kph (31 mph) on the Aaland Islands.

In Finland, speeding fines are determined based on the driver’s income, taking into account their daily estimated disposable income. “I deeply regret the incident,” expressed Wiklöf in an interview with a local Aaland newspaper.

Wiklöf, who is 76 years old, serves as the chairman of a company that bears his name and generates an annual revenue of $375 million, as reported by Luxury Launches. This is not the first time he has been cited for speeding, as he previously received fines of $68,176 in 2018 and $102,000 in 2013.

Although the sum Wiklöf paid for his most recent ticket is substantial, it falls short of the world record. In Switzerland, a driver was caught traveling at 180 mph on a public road and was required to pay a fine of $1 million, as per their similar fine calculation system.

According to Swiss Info, the unidentified driver claimed that “the speedometer must have been malfunctioning” when questioned by the police officers.
