Nancy Pelosi Undergoes Emergency Surgery

(Scypre.com) – Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has successfully undergone hip replacement surgery in Germany following an injury sustained during a congressional trip to Luxembourg. The news, shared by her spokesperson Ian Krager on Saturday, brings relief to her supporters and colleagues.

Krager confirmed that Pelosi is “well on the mend” and extended gratitude on her behalf to the U.S. military personnel at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and the medical team at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their “excellent care and kindness.” He added, “Speaker Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans.”

Details surrounding the injury emerged after Pelosi, 84, was transported by a medical evacuation flight (MEDEVAC) to Landstuhl, Germany, for treatment. According to a defense official, the injury occurred on Friday while she was in Luxembourg as part of an official congressional delegation.

On Friday, Krager released a statement explaining that Pelosi had “sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.” He assured the public that she was receiving excellent care and continued to work despite her condition. “Speaker Emerita Pelosi regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” Krager said.

Pelosi was in Luxembourg with more than a dozen members of Congress to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a pivotal event in World War II. The specifics of how she sustained the injury remain undisclosed. Initial treatment began in Luxembourg before her transfer to Germany for further medical attention.

Pelosi, one of the longest-serving members of the U.S. House of Representatives, stepped down from her role as Speaker in 2022, marking a significant generational shift in the Democratic Party’s leadership. First elected to Congress in 1987, she broke barriers in 2007 when she became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, a position she held until her recent departure.

Re-elected in November 2022, Pelosi’s current term extends through 2026. However, she has not disclosed whether she will seek re-election after her term ends. At 84, she remains an influential figure in U.S. politics and continues to be actively involved in legislative matters.

The news of Pelosi’s injury coincides with a similar incident involving Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The 82-year-old Republican leader sustained minor injuries after a fall during a lunch with Senate colleagues on Capitol Hill earlier in the week. He reportedly sprained his wrist and received treatment for a minor facial injury.

As Pelosi recovers, her commitment to public service remains evident. Her determination to return to her duties and advocacy for accessible health care exemplify her enduring dedication to the American people.
