Roller Coaster Derails, Killing 1 Injuring 9

(Scypre.com) – An incident occurred at Sweden’s oldest amusement park, resulting in the tragic death of one individual and injuries to nine others.

The accident took place on Sunday when the Jetline roller coaster at Gröna Lund park experienced a partial derailment, causing several passengers to be thrown off the track and plummet to the ground. The park authorities have stated that the exact cause of the train’s front coming off the track remains unknown.

Eyewitnesses reported that the train cars came to a halt approximately 20 to 25 feet above the ground. However, it was observed that two or three individuals fell out of the cars, with one person managing to hold on to the track.

The identity of the deceased passenger has not been disclosed to the public. By Monday, the majority of the injured individuals, including three children, had been discharged from medical care. However, four adults, two of whom were in a serious but stable condition, remained hospitalized, as reported by the regional government.

In response to the incident, the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority initiated an investigation into the partial derailment of the roller coaster train. Additionally, the police have launched a separate criminal investigation to examine possible charges of involuntary manslaughter, causing bodily harm, and endangering others.

Gröna Lund, situated on an island close to Stockholm’s city center, has been entertaining visitors since its opening in 1883 and is renowned as one of Sweden’s most popular amusement parks.

The Jetline roller coaster, which spans approximately 2,600 feet, first opened in 1988 and underwent renovation in 2000, according to the park. With a maximum height of 98 feet and a top speed of 56 mph, it remains a notable attraction within the park.
