(Scypre.com) – A man from Michigan says that even though the leaders in his small town got replaced for agreeing to a Chinese-linked energy project, democracy is still strong. Jason Kruse, the new leader of Green Charter Township, wants everyone in the country to know that their votes matter, especially in local elections.
Kruse explains that it’s important to remember that public officials work for the public, and it’s good to see people realizing that. In a special election on Tuesday, the people in Green Charter Township voted out their five remaining leaders who had supported a big project with a Chinese company called Gotion High-tech Co. The project was about building a huge battery plant for electric vehicles.
Even though the governor and other Democrats in Michigan supported the $2.36 billion project, the people in Green Charter didn’t like it. They were worried about building on farmland and about the company’s connections to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Despite their concerns, the previous leaders didn’t listen to them or let them vote on it.
Jason Kruse and others worked hard to replace the entire leadership through a recall election. They wanted the right kind of growth for their community, not just any growth. The Chinese company, Gotion, says it’s not connected to the CCP, but some Republicans are still worried about it.
Now, with the new leaders in place, they plan to review the deal with Gotion. Kruse won the election with 70% of the vote, and he believes it shows that people want their voices heard in their government. He thinks it’s a battle between the regular people and those in power, and he wants everyone to know that they don’t want to give up their country to others.
