Trump Roasts Kamala For Not Attending Annual Al Smith Dinner

(Scypre.com) – Former President Donald Trump expressed his disapproval on Friday regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’s absence from the 79th Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, labeling her decision as “terrible.” During an appearance on “FOX & Friends,” Trump voiced his surprise at Harris not attending the historically significant event, which raises funds for charitable causes supporting women and children.

“I thought it was great, you know, it was for the Catholic Church… a lot of good people, a lot of good causes and unusually she didn’t show up. You would have thought she would have showed up last night,” Trump stated, underscoring the event’s importance and its tradition of bringing political figures together across party lines.

Historically, the Al Smith Dinner has been a hallmark of the election cycle since its inception in 1946, providing a platform for light-hearted political discourse amidst the intensity of campaigning. Trump reminisced about the event’s past attendance, noting that only one previous candidate had missed it, former Vice President Walter Mondale in 1984. “I think it was terrible that she missed it because… only one person missed it in many years and that’s Walter Mondale and he lost 49-1,” Trump remarked.

When asked by co-host Brian Kilmeade why he thought Harris chose to skip the dinner, Trump offered a pointed critique. “I think that she’s not competent. I don’t want to say this kind of stuff, but we can’t live with this,” he declared, emphasizing his concerns over her qualifications for leadership. He further remarked, “I don’t think she’s funny,” indicating his belief that her humor was not suited for a presidential candidate.

In a light-hearted jab, Trump recalled his surprise at Harris’s absence. “I must say I was shocked when I heard that Kamala was skipping the Al Smith dinner. I’d really hoped that you would come, because we can’t get enough of hearing her beautiful laugh. She laughs like crazy,” he joked.

Trump continued to poke fun at the situation, suggesting a different motive for Harris’s attendance. “If you really wanted Vice President Harris to accept your invitation, I guess you should have told her the funds were going to bail out the looters and rioters in Minneapolis, and she would have been here, guaranteed,” he quipped, referencing her promotion of a bail fund during the 2020 protests.

The event, named after the first Catholic presidential candidate, Al Smith, aims to promote civility and unity among attendees. However, Harris’s absence disappointed many, including New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who lamented on his podcast that “this year will be imbalanced because, sadly, Kamala Harris isn’t coming. It’s a shame because the nature of the evening is to bring people together.”

Prominent attendees at the dinner included New York Attorney General Letitia James, former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris campaign for a response regarding her absence, but did not receive a reply. Previously, the campaign indicated that Harris opted to focus her efforts on campaigning in the battleground state of Wisconsin on Thursday instead of attending the dinner.
