Watch: WNBA Brawl, 3 Players Ejected

Tempers flared in Connecticut on Tuesday night as a heated WNBA showdown between the Chicago Sky and the Connecticut Sun turned ugly, resulting in three player ejections after a mid-game melee. The confrontation, which erupted midway through the second quarter, had fans on their feet and officials scrambling to restore order.

The altercation began when Sun guard Bria Hartley and Sky forward Rebecca Allen tangled under the basket during a rebound attempt. After a hard shove sent Allen to the floor, she retaliated by grabbing Hartley’s jersey. That’s when Sky guard Ariel Atkins charged into the fray, making contact and escalating the situation as teammates and referees rushed in to separate the players.

Officials halted play for nearly ten minutes to review the footage. The verdict: Hartley and Allen were ejected for fighting, and Atkins was tossed for escalating the altercation. The ejections left Chicago shorthanded for the remainder of the game, with only eight players available after halftime.

Sky coach Tyler Marsh didn’t hold back, criticizing the officiating crew for what he called a “lack of control” earlier in the game. He claimed Allen had been elbowed in the face just minutes before the brawl, a hit he believes set the tone for what followed.

The Sun went on to defeat the Sky 71–62, but the incident overshadowed the final score. League officials are expected to review the incident, and further discipline could follow.
