Woman Rescued After Falling From Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

(Scypre.com) – A woman had a terrifying experience during her cruise vacation when she fell overboard, as captured in a dramatic video footage. The incident took place on Sunday on Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas. The woman, aged 42 and unidentified, reportedly plunged into the ocean from the 10th deck of the cruise ship.

The exact cause of her fall remains unclear, but she was in the water for approximately 45 minutes before being saved. This incident occurred southeast of the Dominican Republic, as reported.

Upon learning about the situation, the ship’s staff promptly alerted local authorities and initiated a search. In a statement, Royal Caribbean confirmed that they immediately notified the authorities and began searching for the guest. Fortunately, the woman was successfully rescued and brought back on board the ship. Royal Caribbean’s care team is currently providing assistance and support to the woman and her travel companions.

The U.S. Coast Guard played a vital role in retrieving the woman, who was found to be in good health. The ship’s medical team promptly attended to her upon her return.

According to a press statement by the Coast Guard, they received a report from the Mariner of the Seas at around 5:44 p.m. on Sunday, informing them that the crew had rescued a 42-year-old female passenger, a U.S. citizen, who had fallen overboard.

The incident occurred approximately 27 nautical miles south of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, while the ship was en route to Willemstad, Curaçao.

The Mariner of the Seas departed from Port Canaveral in Florida on June 23 and is scheduled to return on July 1. The eight-day trip covers a route through the southern Caribbean.

Although significant progress has been made in passenger safety on cruise ships, a report from the Cruise Lines International Association indicates that an average of 19 individuals fell overboard annually between 2009 and 2019. Unfortunately, only a small number of those who fall overboard are rescued.
