(Scypre.com) – Colin Kaepernick is possibly on the verge of a comeback in professional football, albeit not necessarily within the NFL.
After reaching out to the New York Jets with a letter expressing his interest in joining their practice squad, Kaepernick remained without a contract as of Thursday, marking his absence from NFL action since 2016.
Nevertheless, there have been reports of potential interest from a Canadian Football League (CFL) team. The BC Lions included Kaepernick on their negotiation list, as per TSN.
The CFL allows each team to hold exclusive CFL rights to a maximum of 45 players by placing them on their negotiation lists, with the ability to modify the list as needed. Whether Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, will consider any interest from the CFL remains uncertain.
He has been out of the league since his controversial decision to kneel during the national anthem in 2016, sparking considerable controversy. Kaepernick has since made strong statements, likening the NFL Draft to a slave auction, advocating for law enforcement abolition, and criticizing the NFL’s purported lack of action on social injustices.
In the midst of the New York Jets grappling with their quarterback situation following Aaron Rodgers’ injury, rapper J. Cole shared a letter penned by Kaepernick to Jets’ general manager Joe Douglas. In the letter, Kaepernick conveyed his well wishes for Zach Wilson and clarified that his intention was not to vie for the starting position, but rather to express interest in filling the back-up role or leading the Jets’ practice squad.
