(Scypre.com) – Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, is set to officially close its long-standing San Francisco headquarters on September 13, a date that notably falls on a Friday.
The closure was communicated to employees via email, as reported by a source familiar with the matter to Fortune.
The decision follows Musk’s announcement last month to relocate the global headquarters of X and SpaceX from California, citing growing frustrations with the state’s policies.
Specifically, Musk pointed to a new law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, which prohibits schools from informing parents about their children’s gender identity, calling it “the final straw.”
In response to this law, X’s headquarters will move to Austin, Texas, and SpaceX will relocate from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.
Musk has long criticized California’s policies, particularly those he believes are unfriendly to businesses. His decision to move X and SpaceX echoes his earlier move of Tesla’s headquarters from California to Austin in 2021, after clashing with the state’s government over strict COVID-19 restrictions.
Musk’s ongoing migration of his companies to Texas underscores his preference for the state’s more business-friendly environment.
