(Scypre.com) – Federal health authorities have issued a warning regarding a recall of cake slices sold at Walmart outlets across the United States due to an undisclosed allergen, posing a potential danger to certain consumers.
The recall was initiated by David’s Cookies after they were notified that 960 units of their Marketside Ultimate Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake slices were mistakenly labeled as Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake slices. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a notice detailing this mislabeling.
In consequence, the cake slices’ labeling failed to accurately depict peanut as a significant ingredient and did not include a warning about the presence of peanuts, a crucial allergen, as stated in the recall notice.
Peanuts rank among the eight food types or groups identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as the leading causes of severe allergic reactions in the United States.
Allergic reactions can vary in symptoms and severity from person to person. In severe instances, individuals may experience anaphylaxis, a sudden and critical allergic reaction that can be fatal, as per CDC guidelines. So far, there have been no reported illnesses or injuries linked to the recalled products, according to the recall notice. However, customers are strongly advised to consult a healthcare professional if they have any concerns.
The product was packaged in clear 7-ounce plastic wraps with the lot number BS23212 clearly marked on the package.
David’s Cookies collaborated with Walmart to halt the distribution and sale of both the Marketside Ultimate Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake and Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake by blocking them from their distribution centers and store registers. This measure was taken to prevent anyone from purchasing the products “until further investigation and resolutions have been completed,” as outlined in the notice.
The distribution center at Walmart responsible for distributing the mislabeled product has been identified. Both companies are working in tandem to ensure that no further shipments of these products reach the stores, as mentioned in the notice.
