Friends Star Matthew Perry Dies at 54

(Scypre.com) – Matthew Perry, known for his iconic role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” has passed away at the age of 54. Law enforcement sources reported that the actor was discovered lifeless in a hot tub at a residence in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles on Saturday, with initial indications suggesting drowning as the cause of death.

Emergency personnel initially responded to a call reporting cardiac arrest at the location, according to TMZ. No drugs were found on the scene, and there is no suspicion of foul play. The Los Angeles Times reported that authorities arrived at Perry’s residence at 4 p.m., finding him unresponsive. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s robbery-homicide detectives are conducting an investigation into Perry’s death. His last social media post, shared five days ago on Instagram, featured an image of him wearing headphones in a hot tub at night, with the caption humorously reading, “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”

Born on August 19, 1969, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, to Suzanne Marie and John Bennett Perry, Matthew Perry spent his early years in Canada before relocating to Los Angeles. Beyond his acclaimed role in “Friends,” Perry took on leading roles in films such as “Fools Rush In,” “17 Again,” “The Whole Nine Yards,” and more. Perry made appearances in various TV series, including “Charles in Charge,” “Silver Spoons,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and “The West Wing.” In 2021, the main cast of “Friends” reunited for the HBO special “Friends: The Reunion.” Perry emphasized the enduring bond between the cast, stating in an interview with People magazine in October that they remained a close-knit group.

In November 2022, Perry released his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” in which he candidly discussed his time on “Friends” and his prolonged struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. The actor revealed facing extreme lows, including taking 55 Vicodin pills daily and undergoing numerous rehab stints and addiction-related surgeries.
