(Scypre.com) – Over the weekend, the Maine state government convened a press conference to provide updates on the mass shooting case in Lewiston, Maine.
Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck offered detailed insights on Saturday regarding the manhunt that ultimately led to the discovery of suspect Robert Card’s body in an overflow parking area.
Sauschuck explained, “The Maine State Police tactical team was responsible for locating the body within one of those trailers. It was a tractor-trailer style, similar to an 18-wheeler. He was found in the back of a box trailer, which was left unlocked from the outside.”
The suspect in the Lewiston mass shooting, Robert Card, was found dead on Friday, bringing an end to a nationwide manhunt that had captured public attention for several days.
Card is the main suspect in the mass shooting that occurred on Wednesday at Schemengees Bar and Grille and the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, resulting in 18 deaths and 13 injuries.
During the manhunt, a substantial number of law enforcement officers, including the FBI, SWAT, and BORTAC Border Patrol units, collaborated to locate the armed and dangerous suspect.
Sauschuck noted, “The family has been incredibly cooperative with us. In fact, the first three people who called us to positively identify this individual based on the released photos were family members.”
State authorities also disclosed the establishment of a “family assistance center” to meet the needs of the victims’ families at a central location.
Sauschuck described the center as a “one-stop-shop” intended to provide victims and their support persons with a central space, eliminating the need for multiple stops at different agencies for assistance.
