(Scypre.com) – Renowned design expert Ty Pennington had a serious health scare recently that led to his hospitalization. Pennington, who is 58 years old, took to Instagram on Friday to share the details of his experience and even posted pictures of himself while being intubated.
In his social media post, Pennington started by saying, “From the red carpet to the ICU… this past week has been quite eventful!” He went on to explain that a few days after attending the premiere of “Barbie,” he woke up at 4 am struggling to breathe.
It turned out that the persistent sore throat he had been experiencing for the past month was actually an abscess that had grown so large it was blocking his airway. As a result, he had to be intubated and was flown to the ICU in Denver.
Pennington underwent surgery on Wednesday and was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit on Thursday afternoon.
He mentioned that he is still in the process of recovery and expressed his gratitude to the hospital staff. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of listening to one’s body when it sends signals of distress.
Throughout his health scare, Pennington documented the events with a series of photos on his social media.
The images included him giving a thumbs-up while lying in a hospital bed with wires attached to his hospital gown, a picture of him being intubated at the Denver hospital, and a relaxed photo of him sitting in a chair, pointing at the camera while holding a hospital cup.
Among the pictures, there was also a snapshot of Pennington on the red carpet at the premiere of “Barbie.” Interestingly, Pennington will be appearing in the upcoming HGTV show “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge,” where he will compete against eight other teams to transform a South California home into a life-size replica of Barbie’s iconic pink abode.
Pennington gained fame when he joined the cast of “Trading Spaces” in 2000. Afterward, he went on to host “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” from 2004 to 2012. Presently, Pennington is in the fourth season of his new show, “Rock the Block,” and is also the host of HGTV’s “Battle on the Beach.”
