(Scypre.com) – Maine State Police Colonel William Ross announced on Thursday that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Robert Card, who is a fugitive suspected of committing at least eight counts of murder. The victims are currently being identified from a series of mass shootings that occurred in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday night.
Colonel Ross provided details, stating that eight individuals lost their lives at Schemengees Bar and Grill, seven at the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, and an additional three died after being taken to local hospitals. The suspect, 40-year-old Card from Bowdoin, is the subject of an extensive manhunt.
“There is currently an arrest warrant for eight counts of murder for Mr. Card,” Ross explained. “As ten individuals have not been identified yet, the counts may increase to a total of 18.” Governor Janet Mills revealed that 18 people were killed in the shootings, and 13 others were injured.
President Biden and Governor Mills ordered the lowering of all U.S. flags and state of Maine flags to half-staff for the next five days to honor the victims. Governor Mills expressed sorrow for the community of Lewiston, emphasizing its close-knit nature and the tragedy’s impact on the city’s peace of mind and sense of security.
“Lewiston is a special place with a long history of hard work and faith,” she said. “No city, no state, no people deserve this terrible assault. Our small state, known for its safety, is deeply affected. This attack strikes at the very heart of who we are and the values we hold dear.”
Colonel Ross cautioned the public, describing Card as “armed and dangerous,” advising against approaching him based on their investigation.
Mike Sauschuck, the commissioner of the Maine Department of Public Safety, emphasized the ongoing efforts of all partners in a comprehensive pursuit to bring Card into custody. Sauschuck stated that Card’s current location is unknown.
