(Scypre.com) – Alabama authorities announced on Monday that they had issued four arrest warrants relating to a significant altercation that took place at a riverfront. During the incident, a group of individuals seemed to launch an attack on a dockworker, prompting onlookers to react with shock and record the ensuing chaos.
Major Saba Coleman of the Montgomery Police revealed that additional warrants might be issued as law enforcement reviews more of the recorded footage of the brawl, which garnered widespread attention across the nation. On Sunday, the police mentioned that they had detained several individuals, and charges against them were pending.
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed stated that a briefing would be conducted on Tuesday to provide an update on the unfolding situation. He emphasized the collective strength of the community in overcoming such challenges, drawing parallels to past situations the community has faced. Reed clarified that no arrests had been made at that point.
The brawl occurred at Riverfront Park around 7 p.m. on Saturday and was captured on video from a boat by observers present at the scene. The altercation seemed to erupt when a crew member of a city-operated riverboat endeavored to have a pontoon boat repositioned, as it was obstructing the docking of the larger riverboat.
The situation escalated as a man pushed the crew member, who then tossed his cap into the air. The conflict intensified as additional individuals joined in and assaulted the employee, ultimately resorting to punching and kicking him while he was on the ground.
Amid the chaos, a spectator who was recording the incident can be heard shouting, “Help the brother!” Another person is seen swimming towards the dock, presumably to assist the beleaguered worker. Bystanders intervened, managing to pull the assailants away from the employee. Subsequently, the worker stood up on his own and walked away from the scene.
In a separate video, it becomes apparent that after the riverboat successfully docked, several passengers confronted the group on the pontoon boat, resulting in another brawl that was only halted when police officers intervened. The identities of the employee and the individuals named in the warrants have not been disclosed by the authorities.
