Train Crash in Pakistan Leaves 30 Dead

(Scypre.com) – A tragic incident occurred near Pakistan’s capital as a train derailed on Sunday, resulting in the unfortunate loss of over 30 lives, which included women and children. Additionally, nearly 100 individuals sustained injuries during the mishap.

The train had been en route to Rawalpindi, a destination located approximately 40 minutes away from Islamabad in the northern region of Pakistan. Distressing scenes were broadcasted on local television, showing rescue teams diligently working to extract passengers, particularly women, children, and elderly individuals, from the overturned and damaged train cars. Among the injured, some were observed lying on the ground, appealing for assistance, while local residents offered water and nourishment to aid them.

In the midst of a political gathering in Punjab, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sorrow over the lives lost. He offered prayers for the souls of the departed and a swift recovery for the injured, saying, “In this difficult time, we collectively beseech Allah to grant those who have passed away a place in heaven, and I extend my heartfelt wishes for the speedy recuperation of those who have been hurt.”

Mahmoodur Lakho, a senior railway official responsible for overseeing the railways in the affected area, informed that rescue teams had transported the injured passengers to the nearby People’s Hospital in Nawabshah. For those critically wounded, military helicopters were employed to transport them to more distant hospitals to ensure optimal medical care.

Another senior railway officer, Mohsin Sayal, explained that train services on the primary railway line had been suspended as repair teams were dispatched to the site. Contingencies for alternative travel arrangements and medical assistance were promptly organized for the affected passengers. Consequently, all trains, regardless of direction, were held at the nearest stations until the tracks were cleared, inevitably leading to delays in all departures.

Khawaja Saad Rafique, the Minister for Railways, confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the accident was already in progress. He raised the potential reasons behind the derailment, including mechanical failure or potential sabotage.
