Missing Woman For 2 Years Finally Found In Backyard Firepit

(Scypre.com) – A 54-year-old South Carolina man has been charged with murder after authorities discovered the remains of a woman, who had been missing for over two years, buried beneath a firepit in the backyard of his home. The Myrtle Beach Police Department reported that Sheridan Dirk Fogle was arrested in connection with the death of 51-year-old Penni Whiteside.

Whiteside was last seen on May 11, 2022, and was living with Fogle at a residence on 1st Avenue in Myrtle Beach at the time of her disappearance. Although the nature of their relationship remains unclear, neighbors’ statements led investigators to believe that Whiteside might have been buried near the residence.

Following these leads, her remains were uncovered during a search of the property on June 12, according to the Horry County Coroner’s office. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed by the coroner’s office.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department expressed their condolences in a statement, calling the incident a “tragic loss of life and a senseless crime of violence.” They urged the community to keep Whiteside’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.

Fogle was taken into custody and is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County without bail. Details regarding his legal representation or upcoming court appearances have not been released.
