In a joint statement, they expressed their difficult choice and asked for privacy as they navigate this new phase of their lives, emphasizing their love and care for one another.
News of their separation surfaced shortly after Sofía’s 51st birthday celebration in Italy, where she was pictured with friends, but Joe was notably absent. However, he did pay tribute to her on social media, sharing a throwback photo of the two on July 10.
Their relationship had a unique beginning. After crossing paths multiple times, they finally had their first date on June 15, 2014. Joe discovered that Sofía was single while he was traveling for work and got her number through her co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
The actress initially tried to convince herself that the relationship wouldn’t work, but Joe went to great lengths to impress her, even humorously presenting himself as the “Number One Bachelor in the World.”
The couple got engaged in December 2014 after a romantic proposal on Christmas Eve, and they tied the knot 11 months later in a star-studded ceremony attended by numerous celebrities.
